The owner of four Austin radio stations is getting even bigger.

Philadelphia-based Entercom said Thursday it is merging with CBS Radio, which is based in New York.

The combined companies have 244 stations in 47 markets, including Austin, Dallas and Houston. They will operate under the Entercom name, with a corporate headquarters in Philadelphia.

A purchase price was not disclosed, but the companies said the deal would be structured as a Reverse Morris Trust, which would be tax-free to CBS and its stockholders.

In Austin, Entercom owns Mix 94.7, Majic 95.5, 96.3 RnB and Talk Radio 1370.

It’s a reunion of sorts for the Austin stations, which Entercom acquired from CBS Radio a decade ago when the company was divesting its properties in smaller markets.

New show focused on the paranormal to air on Talk Radio 1370 AM

3631439“Beyond Reality Radio,” a new show focused on the paranormal, will debut in 10 cities across the country on Aug. 1, including right here in Austin.

The program will air live from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday on 1370 KJCE-AM.

Currently Clark Howard’s nationally syndicated show airs in that spot.

Co-hosted by “Ghost Hunters” star Jason Hawes and TAPS ParaMagazine editor/publisher JV Johnson, “Beyond Reality Radio” is the first live radio show to be syndicated by Pennsylvania-based Entercom, the owner of KJCE-AM. Other cities where it will air include Boston; Buffalo, N.Y.; Denver; Gainesville, Fla.; Greenville, N.C.; Kansas City; New Orleans; Wichita, Kan. and Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

“Radio has a long history of programs about the paranormal, dating back to the 1920s, so it’s very exciting to bring ‘Beyond Reality Radio’ to the airwaves with Entercom and continue this tradition, but with a contemporary twist,” Johnson said. “We’ll be engaging with our listeners not only through call-in, but through our digital platforms. So while we’re reaching a larger audience, we’re also creating a community with which we’re intimately connected.”
